Culture and heritage of Dubai:
Early history: Dubai’s history can be tracked back over 4000 years to the Bronze Age. Because of it’s creek, it has been a centre of trade for the region. Today’s modern city can chart growth back to the 19th century, when it was the most important port on the UAE’s Arabian Gulf coastline. By the 1800s, the city has developed massively, supported by the income of pearling. This led the area being called as the ” Trucial Coast ” until the UAE was born in 1971. In 1971, the new state UAE comprises the emirates of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain and Res Al Khaimah in 1972. Each Emirate is named after it’s main town. The formation of the UAE came after the discovery of huge oil reserves in Abu Dhabi in 1958. The emirate has an incredible 6% of the world’s known oil reserves. This, of course, has changed the economy dramatically.
In 1966, Dubai, which was already a relatively wealthy trading centre, also discovered oil. The UAE’s culture is tolerant and welcoming, and visitors are sure to be charmed by the genuine friendliness and hospitality. You will be able to realise, that all the nationalities and cultures are mixing in this amazing city. Which has, of course, made Dubai so modern and cosmopolitan as it is. From western to eastern influences, the rapid economic development has changed life in the UAE. The people of Dubai promote cultural and sporting events that have been here before as well, such as camel racings and traditional dhow sailing which we absolutely recommend to visit and enjoy.
